About

Hey there! My name is Dera, and I’m a freshman from sunny Southern California. Contrary to popular belief, I do know the meaning of winter, since I lived in Utah when I was younger. My plan is to double major in computer science and linguistics and minor in writing. I’m a member of K.A.R.L. Improv, which recently won the 2012 INNY Award for Best in College Improv. In my spare time, I like to play the piano, participate in theater activities on campus, and write fiction. I have a penchant for the sweet potato fries at WashU, and I’m so excited to tell you all about my experiences here!

  1. Hey,
My name is Sanjana and I’m from Singapore. I am very keen in attending WashU but I’m unsure of whether I should apply through early decision or not. I took my SAT and my best score thus far is: Reading – 590, Math – 740, Writing – 610. I know these scores do not make the cut so I thought i’d try the ACT. I’ll be taking it on October 26 and the scores won’t be out before the deadline for early decision. Should I apply through early decision with my SAT scores or apply through regular decision with my ACT score? I really really want to attend WashU and want the school to know that it’s my first choice but I’m sure if my SAT scores will make the cut (although I’ve heard that admissions process is very holistic). Please help!

    • Hi there, Sanjana. I don’t have that answer for you, but I suggest you talk to an admissions officer. Maybe send an email to your regional admissions officer? Mine was very nice and helpful when I had questions. You’re right, admissions is holistic in that WashU doesn’t only care about your test scores. Good luck!
